James Faulds and Tom Stark
James Faulds and Tom Stark were educated at the Mackintosh School of Architecture, where they graduated in 2020. Established in 2016, Faulds Stark was founded on a common philosophy which speaks to the on-going dialogue between a universal simplicity, context, and the long lineage of architectural history. They currently work for David Chipperfield Architects and Baillie Baillie Architects, respectively.
Their final year thesis, An Architecture of Emotion, acts as a critical reappraisal of the value of collective and solitary emotional space, within the contemporary, secular city: Antwerp. Seven chapels form a constellation at the heart of a city block, fed through a series of arterial gardens and gatehouses. Each chapel offers space in which one may seek comfort, solace, or celebration: spaces that in atmosphere aim to fulfil our emotional and spiritual needs.
