Born in Perth, John Grant Clifford RSA studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee (1962-67). From 1967 to 1970 he continued his studies at the Royal College of Art, obtaining a post-graduate degree in Art. After graduating he went on to join the teaching staff at DoJ. A member of the Dundee Group of artists, he has played a significant role in promoting the work of artists from this part of Scotland.

Transpersonal Depth Psychology pioneered by Carl Jung, particularly in the discovery of the unconscious in life and the drives of Archetypal Collective energies which inform our human condition, is a major interest and source of creative inspiration for him and his work.

Grant divides his professional life between practicing as an accredited Transpersonal Psychotherapist and working in his studio painting and writing. He has enjoyed this balance of activities for some years.
