Sofia Hallström
The series of paintings presented are an exploration of personal histories, memory, and dreams. They draw on an archive of found objects, heirlooms, and family photographs. The works are framed by architectural forms and gates, enclosing the space of the paintings and marking the divisions of past and present, personal and private, and the dissolving boundaries of the real and fantastical. There is an uncanny realism to the pieces: a shadowy figure looms in an empty courtyard, walls appear fractured by an immanent, mysterious light, and a sea landscape yields to a yawning void.
