    As part of 200th anniversary of the Royal Scottish Academy join us in workshops and family-friendly events throughout the year inspired by items in our collection created by RSA / HRSA artists.   
     
    Make your own Elgin Marbles
    17 July 10.30 am to 12.30pm

    Join us at this family friendly event where we will create our own Elgin Marbles inspired by the work of John Henning HRSA. We'll use the Henning replicas from our own collection as inspiration and create our own models in relief, using clay and casting with plaster.


    Henning created the first replicas in miniature of the Parthenon friezes (known now as the Elgin Marbles), based on his own drawings of these infamous sculptures.

     

    Suitable for ages 7+.  All under-18s must be accompanied by an adult (each children's ticket includes one adult).  Things might get messy, so please dress appropriately!

  • Family Fun: monoprinting

    31 July 10.30am to 12.30pm 

     

    Join us at this family friendly event where we will explore various monoprinting techniques to create pictures inspired by the work of Sir George Reid RSA.


    We'll use George Reid’s artworks from our own collection as inspiration, along with old photographs of Elgin Buildings, and make our own artworks using a variety of materials. 

     

    Known mainly for being a portrait painter, George Reid RSA was noted for his black and white (monochrome) works, using pen & ink and watercolours sketches.

     

    Suitable for ages 8+ All under-18s must be accompanied by an adult (each children's ticket includes one adult). Things might get messy, so please dress appropriately!

  • Family Fun: collage & cyanotype printing

    8 August 2026 10.30am - 12.30pm 

     

    Join us at this family friendly event where we will create pictures inspired by the work of Sir George Reid RSA using collage and (if the sun is shining) cyanotype printing (aka “sun” printing).


    We'll use George Reid’s artworks from our own collection as inspiration, along with old photographs of Elgin Buildings, and make our own artworks using a variety of materials.

     

    Suitable for ages 8+ All under-18s must be accompanied by an adult (each children's ticket includes one adult).Things might get messy, so please dress appropriately!

  • Elgin Walk & Sketch

    16 August 2026 10am - 1pm 

     

    A creative walk around Elgin’s historic town centre, explore the buildings and streetscape around us. Inspired by the work of Sir George Reid RSA in our collection, we’ll create observational sketches, in monochrome, using a variety of materials to capture a unique record of our journey.

     

    Suitable for ages 18+. No previous drawing experience required and all materials will be provided.  Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions on the day (layers, hat / sunglasses, sunscreen) and wear comfortable shoes for walking. If you have a small folding or portable stool, feel free to bring this with you. Please bring any water / snacks you may require.

  • Monoprinting Elgin's Historic Buildings

    22 August 2026 10.30am - 12.30pm 

     

    Inspired by the work of Sir George Reid RSA in our collection, and our archive of photographs of historic buildings, we’ll create a series of monoprints using a variety of materials.

     

    Known mainly for being a portrait painter, George Reid was also noted for his black and white (monochrome) works, using pen & ink and watercolours sketches.

     

    Suitable for ages 18+. No previous drawing experience required and all materials will be provided.

  • Draw the Museum

    5 September 2026 10.30am - 12.30pm 

     

    Join us to at Elgin Museum as we celebrate Door Open Days 2026 with a creative art session.

     

    In celebration of Doors Open Days, and inspired by the work of Sir George Reid RSA in our collection, we’ll create a series of observational sketches of Elgin Museum and its collections. If the weather is good, we’ll start outside, drawing different external elements of the building. Then inside, we explore different architectural details and artefacts.

     

    Known mainly for being a portrait painter, George Reid was also noted for his black and white (monochrome) works, using pen & ink and watercolours sketches.

      

    This event is also being run as part of Doors Open Days 2026.

  • Collage & Cyanotype Elgin's Historic Buildings

    6 September 2026 10.30am - 12.30pm

     

    Inspired by the work of Sir George Reid RSA in our collection, and our archive of photographs of historic buildings, we’ll create a series of collages using a variety of materials. If the sun is shining, we’ll also create a cyanotype prints (aka “sun printing”). 

     

    Suitable for ages 18+ No previous drawing experience required and all materials will be provided
