The Carnegie Travelling Scholarship: A celebration of Andrew Carnegie and the Royal Scottish Academy

 

An exhibition of art from the collections of the Royal Scottish Academy and the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum (ACBM), celebrating over 120 years of the Carnegie Travelling Scholarship.

 

For over 120 years, the RSA Carnegie Travelling Scholarship has supported artists in Scotland. This exhibition with showcase the range of artists awarded the scholarship from its inception to the present day. Featuring never before exhibited works from artists such as Joan Eardley and Elizabeth Blackadder, alongside sculptors, printmakers, architects and painters from the RSA and ACBM collections.

    James Shearer RSA and the Shearers of Dunfermline

     

     

    Our first talk will take a personal look at James Shearer RSA architect of the Museum’s Memorial Hall, the Fire Station Creative and an extension of the Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries.

     

    All three of these buildings are hosting exhibitions to celebrate the RSA’s 200th birthday. We think it will be a brilliant starting point to hear about an architect who has shaped our city’s landscape. Ian Shearer, a descendant of James Shearer will lead the talk sharing a personal view of this industrious man.

    A Life-long Friendship - Andrew Carnegie and the Patons of Dunfermline

    Cat Berry, a descendant of  Joseph Noël Paton RSA will explore the connections between the Carnegie and Paton families which started over 200 years ago. The families stayed in touch after the Carnegies emigrated and Cat will share stories of the friendship between these Dunfermline families and the affection between Andrew, Amelia and Noël.
