Summer Art Challenge Historic Dunfermline Through the Eyes of Children
A free summer art challenge for any children aged 5 to 12. We are inviting young artists to explore and celebrate Dunfermline’s rich history through creativity and all entries will be displayed in a public exhibition at Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries.
Creative Workshops 4 July - 16 August 2026.
Children aged 5 to 12 are invited to take part in a creative summer art challenge celebrating Dunfermline’s rich history. Dunfermline, the burial place of kings, is filled with historic buildings, fascinating characters, and important events that helped shape not only our City, but Scotland as a whole.
Young artists are invited to create an A4 artwork inspired by Historic Dunfermline. This could include buildings, landmarks, famous people, artefacts, local scenery, or moments from the past. The challenge offers children a chance to develop their artistic skills and explore their surroundings. For adults, it will provide a revealing insight into how children see and value Dunfermline’s heritage.
Participation is free, and children can use their own art materials or take advantage of free art kits thanks to funding by Fife Charities Trust.
The challenge will begin on 4 July with a special opening event featuring an introduction by Royal Scottish Academy Director Colin Greenslade, followed by artist-led creative workshops for children.
Exhibition 22 August - 20 September 2026.
All the artworks will be included in an exhibition opening on 22 August 2026 at Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries and running until 20 September.
