    Getting under the Skin of Time: Immersion in the Wild World Film Screening  & In Conversation with Julie Brooks RSA

    Ullapool Ferry Terminal 

    7 - 9 pm

     

    An Talla Solais Art Week 2026 runs from the evening of Friday 4th through to Sunday 13th, kicking off with an opening party at An Talla Solais, with the backdrop of the fantastic ATS Members’ Show, in which 80 artists from the Highlands and across Scotland are exhibiting their work. Throughout the week, artists will be opening their studios and exhibiting their work in pop-up venues. There will also be creative workshops and events for all around the Village.

     

    As a part of the Art Week programme and in colaboration with Green Screen we are delighted to include a film screening of Getting under the Skin of Time: Immersion in the Wild World  followed by In Conversation with Julie Brooks RSA at Ullapool Ferry Terminal  on Sunday 6th September 7 - 9 pm.  Brook will speak about her time working in Libya, Syria and Namibia and on uninhabited coastlines of the Hebrides. 

    All are welcome, please use the side door and bring your own cushions. Entrance is free but donations would be appreciated.  With thanks to Ullapool Harbour and St Mary's Church, Ullapool.

    Ceòl na Tìr-dhàimh | The Music of Home 
     

    An exhibition of paintings by George Macpherson RSA (1935 – 2018) alongside paintings and sound works by contemporary Ullapool based musician and artist, Mairearad Green. For both highland-born artists, the northern landscape as well as music and specifically accordion playing, is integral to their creative process.

     

    Born in Invershin and educated at Golspie High School, George Macpherson RSA attended Edinburgh College of Art, graduating in 1958 and winning the RSA Stuart Prize the same year. He travelled to Spain for the Andrew Grant Travelling Scholarship in 1959, and in 1960 he returned to Edinburgh to take up the position of Lecturer in Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, a position he held until his retirement in 1990.


    Macpherson's painting took great inspiration from his childhood in the Highlands, living close by the River Shin. He also sought influence from a continued involvement with nature and from his love of music. Macpherson was an esteemed accordionist, and his abstract work gave a visual representation of the interplay of Gaelic song and traditional Scottish music.

    An Talla Solais is a unique visual arts charity in Ullapool, in the North West Highlands of Scotland. We have a gallery, ceramics facilities and artist’s studios. We programme three exhibitions per year, and host events and courses for the community. As the only publicly-funded visual arts charity within more than a sixty-mile radius we provide a space that tackles rural isolation and loneliness, programme inspirational artistic experiences and nurture creativity.
