The RSA is delighted to present a small exhibition in The Academicians' Gallery of recent works by Doug Cocker RSA.

The exhibition will showcase elements from three distinct series - or gradations, perhaps - of Cocker's recent work: the physical and vibrant protrusions of the 'Walldances' series, the equally vibrant but comparatively simple constructions of 'Slow Years' and the contained and serene constructed monoprints of the 'Lewis Suite'.

Associated drawings and materials will also be available to view in the display cabinets.

Since graduating from Duncan Of Jordanstone College of Art (Dundee) Doug Cocker has enjoyed a long  and successful career, which has included teaching, residencies, commissions (both private and public) and gallery exhibitions.  He was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1984 and has shown work very recently at House for An Art Lover in Glasgow and the Meffan Gallery in Forfar.  His public sculptures are installed at numerous locations across the UK and his work is held in many public collections.

A film by Robin Palmer shows Doug Cocker engaged in a public sculpture project circa 1991 and provides a fascinating insight into the working life of a sculptor.  Video courtesy of Robin Palmer and Jack Cocker.
