Cultivating Creativity: A Celebration of the Friends of the Royal Scottish Academy Schools’ Art Award

Since 1987 the wealth of artistic talent in Scottish secondary schools has been nurtured and encouraged by the Friends of the Royal Scottish Academy through its annual Schools’ Art Award. The Friends was founded in 1986 to support the RSA in its promotion of the visual arts in Scotland and the Schools’ Art Award reflects the academy’s own commitment to art education and its continued support of young Scottish artists since its inception in 1826.

Cultivating Creativity showcases the nine winning and sixty highly commended entries from the 2007/2008 Schools’ Art Award. Selected works from the RSA’s permanent collection featured in teachers’ packs sent to participating schools will also be on display.

During February, Cultivating Creativity will run concurrently with the RSA Student Exhibition reflecting the RSA’s holistic approach to art education and its advocacy of Scottish art from the classroom to the studio and beyond.

The Schools’ Art Award, Cultivating Creativity and the publication that accompanies this exhibition have all been generously sponsored by Baillie Gifford.
