Keith Rand was born in Rinteln, Germany. He studied at Woodroffe School in Dorset as a boarder at the age of 13 and on leaving was trained as a cartographic surveyor for Ordinance Survey in Southampton before enrolling at Winchester School of Art. He taught in the sculpture department at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen.

Rand worked mainly with wood and had an amazing skill and affinity with the material. He used native timbers which reflected his interest in environmental matters. Many of his works can be found situated rurally across the UK including his work Segmented Sitka situated in the forest at Tyrebagger, Aberdeenshire.
