Sir William Gillies RSA 1898 -1973

The 2024 RSA William Gillies Lecture focused on the life and work of the acclaimed artist himself. We welcomed Sandy Wood, Alexander Moffat RSA, Dr Joanna Soden HRSA and Andrew McPherson to the Academy, who each presented short talks on the life and work of Sir William Gillies. This was followed by a discussion chaired by Murdo Macdonald HRSA and inspired by the themes explored in Andrew McPherson publication, William Gillies: Modernism and Nation in British Art .
