Emily Topping is a photographer and filmmaker currently based in the Lake District, Cumbria. She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2021.

Emily’s artistic practice explores community and togetherness, alongside looking at the intersection between public and private space. She is interested in how people relate to their physical surroundings, and how their sense of self can be defined by these landscapes. Her projects are often site-specific evaluations of people existing in a space, and this project is no exception.

Common Ground is a project exploring how individuals utilised shared space during the pandemic. From October 2020 to May 2021, Emily frequented The Meadows and Bruntsfield Links - public parkland in the centre of Edinburgh - to engage with the landscape and the individuals who occupied the space during COVID-19.
