Elected ARSA: 1826

Elected RSA: 10 July 1829

Kenneth MacLeay RSA was born in Oban in 1802. He came to Edinburgh at age 18 and began his Academic Art studies in Picardy Place where he showed great talent in miniature painting. He soon attained repute as a miniature painter and was one of the founding members of the Royal Scottish Academy.

As his early works declined in public estimations, MacLeay devoted more of his time to landscape and figure pictures in oil and watercolour. For many years he was annually elected one of the Auditors of the Academy.
