A talk by Sandy Wood, Head of Collections at the RSA

    2 June 2026

Both the Royal Scottish Academy and Lyon & Turnbull have been actively involved in the evolving Scottish art market, promoting Scottish contemporary art to the wider world. To mark the RSA's bicentenary, Sandy's talk charted some of that history and focused on the RSA's ongoing relationship with the art market in Scotland.

    About Lyon & Turnbull

Established in Edinburgh in 1826 like the Royal Scottish Academy, Lyon & Turnbull is one of the oldest fine art and antiques auction houses in the United Kingdom, with locations throughout Scotland and London. We hold sales live in Edinburgh and in London, as well as on-line, across a wide range of auction categories from Asian Works of Art to Design since 1860 to Silver. We are the market leaders in auctions dedicated to Scottish art and twice a year bring works by Scotland's most celebrated artists, from Henry Raeburn and Allan Ramsay, to the Scottish Colourists and beyond, to the market.
