The life and legacy of artist William McTaggart
The fifth child of Gaelic speaking Kintyre crofters, William McTaggart RSA became one of Scotland’s most celebrated artists through sheer determination and hard work. What is his legacy a century on, for his country and his family?
In Capturing the Light, singer-songwriter Elsa McTaggart tells the story of her great grandfather’s extraordinary life and talent, and how it shaped her own creativity and life choices.
Capturing the Light will be performed in An Lanntair, Stornoway the Isle of Lewis, Saturday 13 June and at the Edinburgh Fringe as part of the Made in Scotland showcase which promotes a small selection of new Scottish work to international audiences.
Produced by Hebridean arts company sruth-mara, in association with An Lanntair, this visually striking new theatre production is written and performed by Elsa McTaggart and directed by Laura Cameron-Lewis, with production design by Robbie Thomson.
It is hoped that it will tour more widely thereafter.
Performances will be at Big, theSpaceTriplex, The Prince Philip Building, 19 Hill Place, Edinburgh EH8 9DP at 11.40am bwtween 7-28 August. Tickets can be booked via Edinburgh Fringe Festival
