Queen Elizabeth II Private Apartments Tour
To mark the centenary of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth, don’t miss the chance to step inside her private apartments at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, which are being opened to visitors for the first time.
This tour will offer visitors a rare opportunity to explore these historically significant rooms, which will feature a selection of works personally collected by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh from the Royal Scottish Academy. Prince Philip was Patron of the RSA and an Honorary Member as a talented amateur artist in his own right. Visitors will be able to see some of his own work, as well as that of other Academicians including Robin Philipson RSA, John Houston RSA, Barbara Balmer RSA, Victoria Crowe RSA and Frances Walker RSA.
In the company of an expert guide, you will discover the history of the rooms and learn how they were used by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, during her 70-year reign. Visitors will see the Royal Breakfast Room, where the Queen and Prince Philip would dine privately while in residence, and the Sitting Room where the late Queen would work, reviewing the papers and documents presented in the Government red dispatch boxes. In the Dressing Room visitors will see three ensembles from the Queen’s wardrobe, each worn during a significant occasion in Edinburgh.
Your guided tour of the Private Apartments will be combined with a standard visit to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where you can explore the rich history of the Palace including the Throne Room and Mary, Queen of Scots’ historic chambers.
