• About

An Cridhe is a community centre based on the remote Hebridean island of Coll. From this we run the Coll Bunkhouse, the main venue we have used in the past for RSA Residencies.

Coll Bunkhouse provides a private room for sleeping for the residency and use of the shared space within the Bunkhouse as well. We have always done this in Feb/March when the Bunkhouse is quiet but cannot guarantee the whole Bunkhouse will be empty during this time. The resident is also welcome to use space in An Cridhe community centre as well should they need to.

Our previous residencies have taken inspiration from the quiet and serene landscape of the island and have spent a lot of time out and about working on their projects. Our last one joined our local wild swimming group and spent a lot of time out with locals gathering thoughts and feelings about this place.

  • Studio Facilities

The bedroom would be a private room, but the Bunkhouse may still receive bookings for that period. The multi-function room in An Cridhe alongside the Bunkhouse is a good creative space that can be booked for certain times and used as studio space. The community centre is open 9am-9pm and has free Wi-Fi, as does the Bunkhouse. There is free parking on site.

We can only accommodate a residency during winter months, from November to the end of March as this is outside our peak season.

Cost of accommodation is £350 per week. The multi-function room can be hired for £1 per hour.

Must arrive by ferry or flight from Oban, we get daily ferries (reduced to 5 per week in the winter) and travel can be disrupted by weather. Flights are minimal and liable to disruption. It is possible to bring a car on the ferry.

An Cridhe and Coll Bunkhouse are located in Arinagour, the main village on the Isle of Coll. It is a 15-minute walk from the ferry terminal. There is no public transport on Coll, should somebody wish to explore the island a car is recommended, however An Cridhe and the Post Office rent out bikes as well.

    Accessibility

Coll Bunkhouse and community centre are fully accessible and all ground floor only, with large accessible bathrooms and showers in both buildings.

Do note both are accessed via hard packed tracks which during periods of wet weather do become scattered with puddles.

    Insurance

An Cridhe has Public Liability Insurance. Due to the nature of the Isle of Coll being accessible mainly by ferry (although a flight is available) and these ferries depending on weather, it would be recommended that the artist has travel insurance.
