Bringing together the work of Jake Harvey RSA and Helen Douglas, Meeting Point explores the ancient geology of Scotland’s Western Isles through stone, photography and artist’s books. Inspired by the Lewisian Gneiss complex, one of the oldest rock formations in the UK, the artists draw on their research into the landscape of North Uist and Berneray, inspired by the work of 18th-century Scottish geologist James Hutton, whose pioneering studies of Scotland’s rocks transformed our understanding of geological time.

While Harvey’s sculptural works explore stone’s form and tactile qualities, Douglas traces its intricate layers and markings through photography, print and paper. Their shared enquiry reveals unexpected connections between material and image, offering a poetic reflection on the immense timescales and natural processes that have shaped the landscape over billions of years.
