This painting of Stornoway Harbour was my first attempt at working with a palette knife, and I really enjoyed the challenge. I love the freedom I found in working this way and wanted to paint something that celebrated the beauty of my island home. I am delighted to win this award and so grateful to the RSA and to the art department at my school for all their support and for convincing me to submit my work. It has really boosted my confidence and spurred me on as I move to start art school this September.
