Andrew Stenhouse RSA: 'My main preoccupation is with colour and colour relationships, which I see as visual music; colour harmony, discord, contrast, counterpoint, texture, structure, rhythm, tempo, are aspects of music which are also present in visual art; tempo being seen in terms of how slowly or quickly a visual composition is revealed. However, the time aspect of music has its equivalence in distance or space; music is linear in time, visual art is not viewed as such.

'The content comes from what I am experiencing myself, my interests, or in the world around me at the time. This can be anything from my health, physical or emotional; the people who are close to me, society in general around me. I am also interested in prehistory through the remains of the artefacts of ancient cultures. I work in series of connected paintings, the format or the intellectual content are what hold them together.'
