Ben Caro is an artist and art historian based in Edinburgh, where he shares a studio with his part-time collaborator Kat Cutler-MacKenzie. In 2021 he graduated with an MA Fine Art degree from Edinburgh College of Art, following which he received the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop Graduate Residency and ECA/ESW Graduate Studio Award. He has recently undertaken a residency at Copper Leg Art Residency in Estonia (2022) and exhibited his work at gr_und gallery in Berlin (2023) in the exhibition Bodies of Love. Since graduating Caro has received Creative Scotland’s VACMA Award and completed a residency at Edinburgh Film and Video Arts which supported the production of Palimpsest.

 

Palimpsest is an installation which grows out of Caro’s research into early forms of cinema, the 1926 novel Palimpsest by modernist writer and filmmaker Hilda Doolittle (H.D.) and the relationship between sculpture and photography.
