Elected to the Academy as the Professor of Anatomy.

 

Professor Dame Sue Black is an anatomist and forensic anthropologist. She is best known for her work in relation to the war crimes investigations in Kosovo and her work with police forces both throughout the UK and overseas in the identification of human remains.

 

She was awarded an OBE for leading forensic anthropology for the British Forensic Team in Kosovo and then made a Dame in 2016 in recognition of services to the profession.  She is President of the Royal Anthropological Institute which is the professional body for forensic anthropology in the UK and she is currently the Pro Vice Chancellor for Engagement at Lancaster University.
