  • About

Be part of our bicentenary, celebrating 200 years of art and architecture in Scotland!

The RSA Annual Exhibition is the largest and longest-running annual exhibition of contemporary art and architecture in Scotland. For two centuries it has captured art and architecture at a moment in time, reflecting the world as it has changed with the Industrial Revolution, two world wars, the invention of the telephone and the birth of the internet. It continues to provide a platform for contemporary painting, sculpture, film, printmaking, photography and installation, alongside work by some of the country’s leading architects.

Income raised in the Annual Exhibition directly assists artists and the not-for-profit work of the RSA. The exhibition encompasses both the physical and digital, combining the exhibition of artworks on display in the galleries with those shown online, some exclusively designed as such and others as companions or in tandem to work in the galleries.

  • The 200th exhibition will be open from 9 May - 14 June 2026. This year's Convenor is artist Annie Cattrell RSA, who will be assisted in her selection by a Committee of fellow Academicians and supported by our Council.

Once again we are inviting artists at all stages of their careers to submit work for consideration. Building on the success of the online experience developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, which enabled more works to be selected and extended the ways for audiences to discover and engage with artworks, all pre-selected works will again automatically be included in the online exhibition. As usual, only those selected at the final physical selection will be shown on the gallery walls.

There is also the opportunity to submit work as a solely online presentation. These works will only be considered for online selection and open up an opportunity for more experimental practices, for example documentation of installed site-specific work or extended digital video content.

Full details on how to apply can be found below.
