This immersive two-day linocut printmaking workshop introduces participants to a wide range of traditional and experimental carving techniques. Suitable for beginners and those looking to expand their skills, the session focuses on developing confidence with tools, mark-making and the full linocut printing process.
The day will begin with a chance to work with both traditional linocut tools and specialist equipment, including engraving tools, etching needles, and an electric Dremel with micro-drills. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll learn how to create varied line widths, textures, depth and tonal effects within your prints. Participants will also benefit from direct guidance and insight from internationally acclaimed artist Ade Adesina RSA, a rare opportunity to learn closely from a leading contemporary printmaker.
Each student will receive two lino blocks (A5 and A3). The first day focuses on experimentation and developing technical skills, while the second day is dedicated to refining and printing your final design. Participants are encouraged to bring reference images and design sketches that will act as inspiration for their print.
About Ade Adesina RSA
Born in Nigeria in 1980, Adesina studied Fine Art at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen, and continues to live and work in the city. Focusing on the effects of climate change, deforestation and energy consumption, Ade Adesina RSA's ecologically-minded, monumental linocuts, woodcuts and etchings approach the limits to which the medium of printmaking can be pushed. He combines objects, places and scenes from his African heritage, British culture and those encountered whilst travelling into visually-immersive landscapes which come together with the impact of history painting.
