Eric Schilsky was born in Southampton in 1898. He was educated initially at Haberdashers Askes School in London followed by College de Genève. Here, his art studies started when he studied drawing, anatomy and sculpture at Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He later studied sculpture at the Slade.
After serving in the First and Second World Wars he was appointed Head of the School of Sculpture in the Edinburgh College of Art where he remained until he retired in 1969. His understanding of the expressive possibilities of form was profound and his work often featured subtle juxtapositions of refined forms.
