The Carnegie Travelling Scholarship: A celebration of Andrew Carnegie and the Royal Scottish Academy

An exhibition of art from the collections of the Royal Scottish Academy and the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum (ACBM), celebrating over 120 years of the Carnegie Travelling Scholarship.

For over 120 years, the RSA Carnegie Travelling Scholarship has supported artists in Scotland. This exhibition with showcase the range of artists awarded the scholarship from its inception to the present day. Featuring never before exhibited works from artists such as Joan Eardley and Elizabeth Blackadder, alongside sculptors, printmakers, architects and painters from the RSA and ACBM collections.

Creative Textile Workshop: Travels with the RSA Carnegie Scholars

Students are back to school, why not join us in workshop and learn a new skill?  Six sessions will run between Monday 24th of August to Monday the 5th of October from 19.00 - 21.00 pm,  (excluding Monday the 28th of September).

Join Julie Gibb and create a piece of textile art inspired by the artists featured in the RSA200 exhibition: Carnegie and The Royal Scottish Academy: A Celebration of the Carnegie Travelling Scholarship.

The museum creates a welcoming space, for all skill levels, in which you can let your creativity flow. Some materials, equipment and refreshments will be provided.

Creative Textile Workshop: Travels with the RSA Carnegie Scholars
Will you find inspiration in the archways painted by George Stephen Ziffo or the vibrant gardens captured by William Drummond Bone?

This series of six workshops are an opportunity to experiment with fabric, paint and stitch (or whatever takes your fancy!) to create your own original artwork inspired by the colours, textures and themes on display in the RSA200 exhibition ‘Carnegie & The Royal Scottish Academy’. No prior experience of embroidery is required, these workshops are an opportunity to relax, create and enjoy art in a supportive and welcoming space.

I am a self-taught mixed media artist, working with fabric, paper and photographs. I use recycled materials to create artwork that reflects my love for my local environment and my interest in family history. I love to share my passion for textiles and embroidery by running workshops for people to explore their creativity through making.

RSA200 Wednesday Workshops: Summer Art Workshops for Children 

The summer holidays have arrived! Why not join us for some creative, hands-on fun? Come along and explore art, nature, and imagination in our beautiful garden (weather permitting).  Five weekly sessions starting Wednesday 15 July, 12 pm - 13 pm. 

Each week brings a brand new artistic adventure:
🌸 Week 1 – 15 July: A Field of Flowers
🌿 Week 2 – 22 July: Nature Painting
🍃 Week 3 – 29 July: Nature Collage
🖌️ Week 4 – 5 August: Carnegie Personality Portrait
🌈 Week 5 – 12 August: Colour Mixing Magic

We will be working with paint or markers during these workshops, so please ensure your children wear old clothes or an apron. We will not be providing any aprons, only messy fun.

The workshops are perfect for children aged 5–12, these workshops are all about getting creative, making new friends, and having lots of fun outdoors. Come and let your imagination grow!
