HBF x Royal Scottish Academy Visual Art Residency

We are delighted to announce Siobhan McLaughlin as the recipient of the Hugo Burge Foundation x Royal Scottish Academy Visual Art Residency.

This four-week fully funded residency at the Hugo Burge Foundation was open to Academicians and artists associated with the Royal Scottish Academy, inviting the selected artist to respond to Elizabeth Blackadder’s Self Portrait with Cat.

During her time at the Foundation, Siobhan will ‘live’ with this chosen work, displayed within her private studio space, and develop a creative response through her own practice. The residency offers a unique opportunity to engage deeply with the history and legacy of the RSA while exploring new artistic directions in an inspiring environment.

The residency includes on-site accommodation, a dedicated studio, a weekly stipend of £350 and mentorship from art historian Dr James Fox.

The Foundation will also film Siobhan during her residency, creating material that can support documentation of the project and her own promotion.

As part of the programme, Siobhan will share aspects of her work or facilitate a workshop with the Foundation’s community and local residents.
