Glasgow Society of Women Artists Annual Exhibition 2026

This year's annual exhibition of the GSWA, which was founded in 1882, will include a portrait of Dorothy Carleton Smyth painted by David Forrester Wilson RSA.  On loan from the Lillie Art Gallery's Collection, it will be exhibited alongside our current artist members' work.

Smyth was a member of the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists (the original name of the society) from 1902 and was known as a prestigious figure in the Arts and Crafts movement working across a range of disciplines, principally textiles.

In addition, as part of the RSA200 celebrations, a notable Academician will be a guest speaker at one of our monthly lecture series, details to be confirmed.

About Glasgow Society of Woman Artists

The GSWA has partnered with the Lillie Gallery for many years and acknowledges with thanks their help and support in hosting our annual exhibition on alternate years, with the Maclaurin Art Gallery in Ayr.

The gallery has generously allowed us to borrow David Forrester Wilson RSA’s portrait of Dorothy Carleton Smyth who was a member of this society, and director of Glasgow School of Art in 1933.  She exemplifies the broad range of artistic practice which the society exhibits to this day.

The GSWA offers membership to both artists and lay people.
