Talk and presentation on the first of an trilogy made in the Scottish Islands.

Thursday 16th April 2026 6-7.30pm

This event features internationally acclaimed photographer Craig Easton, who will give a presentation on his new book An Extremely Un-get-atable Place, which re-imagines the life of writer George Orwell on the Isle of Jura where he wrote Nineteen Eighty-Four. The work was developed during an RSA Residencies for Scotland with Street Level Photoworks in 2024. It is the first of three books made in the Scottish Islands that will comprise the boxed-set An Island Trilogy, and follows his critically acclaimed monographs Fisherwomen, Bank Top and Thatcher’s Children.

    About Street Level Photoworks

Founded in 1989, the aim of Street Level Photoworks has remained consistent in providing people with a range of opportunities to engage with photography, as artists, participants, audiences, and sector partners. We are a gallery and an open access photographic production facility, and provide a quality artistic programme which is local and international, diverse and highly individual. Our programme’s reach is extended through a network of local, regional and national venues; and we partner with other organisations in residency projects. We also undertake education and community engagement projects, which increase access to the arts for all who want to participate.
