Regional Award - Senior South & East Winner.

The artist: "When I was younger, my family and I would stay in Edinburgh as a getaway every weekend. Being in the city centre installed a sense of curiosity in me about the characteristics of buildings – if they were sentient, what would they say? How would they act like? Who would they be? I try to capture the atmosphere of buildings when I draw and through research about its heritage, I interpret what I believe is its personality. The jubilee clock is a building saturated by history; a witch cast a spell on the bell and insisted that if the bell rings either the ringer will die or the whole town of Queensferry will crumble! I decided to create a looming sense of unease to the piece all whilst maintaining its alluring, arresting architecture. Winning this award shows that I’ve achieved what I set out to do and gives me validation in my art and creative process. Going forward with this award, I intend to keep the momentum by continuing to illustrate, work on my techniques and develop my style as an artist."
