The Academicians' Gallery
The Academicians’ Gallery is pleased to present a selection of works by David Evans RSA (1942–2020).
Renowned for his atmospheric hyperrealist paintings of seemingly mundane interior views, still lifes, building facades and street scenes, Evans transformed the every day into moments of quiet intensity. His paintings grew from a fascination with light and mood that gives his work its distinctive stillness.
Born in South Wales in 1942, Evans studied at Newport College of Art from 1959–1962 before moving to London to continue his training at the Royal College of Art. In 1965 he relocated to Scotland to take up a teaching post at Edinburgh College of Art, where he lectured until his retirement in 1998, continuing to paint from his Edinburgh studio.
