This August, we are pleased to present So Many Summers in the Academicians’ Gallery. Borrowing its title from a poem by Norman MacCaig, the exhibition invites viewers into a season of visual reflection. While MacCaig’s words reflect on the passing of time and the quiet indifference of nature, this exhibition opens that phrase into a broader celebration of the many moods of a Scottish summer.

From delicate botanical studies to atmospheric landscapes and personal recollections, the exhibition brings together a mix of painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture by Royal Scottish Academicians — capturing summer not as a single image, but as a collection of moments shaped by place, personal narrative and memory.
