Raised in the town of Irvine, as a child Boyd would be taken on long walks by his father to explore the local area. One such destination was the village of Drybridge, located on a bend in the River Irvine. This ancient Menhir stands several metres tall, and is the only one of its kind in the area. It sparked an early fascination in archaeology, a theme which has subsequently been present throughout his work
