Mount Yari, rising to 3180m is regarded as an iconic peak, one of the celebrated ‘100 Famous Mountains of Japan’ in the works of writer Kyūya Fukada. Boyd became obsessed with climbing the peak when he saw a woodblock print of the work by artist Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950), and in 2019 completed a several day pilgrimage to the summit as winter turned to spring.
