My subject matter is a girl in my year whose face I always found to be very expressive and open. This inspired me to create this painting, showing how easily two contrasting emotions can be felt at once. The blues made the mood more severe and I felt it would connect the emotion to the viewer. While the yellow is brighter and usually connected to light feelings I thought it would create contrast and confusion, suggesting there’s more that meets the eye. The acrylics allowed me to create greater details and to fully convey the surprise and internal distraught she is feeling. I am very honoured to receive this prestigious award and recognition of my work.
