The subject matter was inspired my frequent trips to an abandoned building during the summer, I was inspired by the level of decay. I enjoyed the idea of capturing the unloved, forgotten interior of a once loved home and its melancholic existence. I have since returned to find the interior in an even sadder state. Hence my painting immortalising the very specific moment of despair within the mundane ruin. I favour using a darker palette with subtle variations to convey the true colour and beauty within the subject, and enjoyed using an expressive approach to describe the interiors’ atmosphere.
