New School Entrant Award - Senior Prize

This piece was the first of a series of self-portraits I made in my sixth year of school for my advanced higher portfolio. I feel like this was a bit of a turning point for my work as I had only worked on a small scale before and with this piece, I tried to challenge myself and work bigger. I was directly influenced by Frida Kahlo's 'Portrait with Cropped Hair' and was really happy with how the painting turned out and and used it in my successful submission to the Painting and Printmaking course at The Glasgow School of Art- the University I have been attending for the past year. This is the first art competition I have entered, and I am so happy to have won this award, and of course grateful to my art teacher Ms Felvus for putting my name forward and the RSA for selecting me.
