Clare Henry HRSA has worked as art critic for the Herald (1978-2000), the Financial Times (2000-2008), the Scotsman, New York Sun and Today newspapers. She has written for Art Review, Art International, Studio, Alba, Galleries, The Art Newspaper, Art Line, State, World of Interiors, Harpers, Town and Country, Sculpture US, ARTnews USA, Ikebana Ryusei Japan, Allgemaines Kunstlerlexikon Germany, Gabrius Italy and Art North. She currently writes for Art Work and ARTLYST. 

 

In 1983 she curated New Scottish Prints as part of the Britain Salutes New York arts festival. This led to a series of curatorial projects, including work at London's Serpentine in 1985 and two shows for the Edinburgh Festival at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art - Artists at Work in 1986, and Vigorous Imagination in 1987. In 1990, Henry was curator for Scotland at the 44th Venice Biennale. 

 

During the 1970s and 1980s she was involved with the Glasgow Print Studio, latterly as Chairman. In the 1980s she freelanced for STV. In New York she worked at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop.  

 

In 2013, Clare Henry donated her 40-year archive of original drafts to Glasgow School of Art. Her Photography Archive of artists, exhibitions, studios, & events will go to the Scottish National Gallery and her cuttings 1980 onwards to the Mitchell Library Special Collections. Henry's archive can be found online here.
