Abbie McLardie’s current art practice focuses on repetition and meditation, alongside the process-based acts of travelling and gathering. Her recent degree show showcased a series of watercolour rock portraits, which acted as the precursor to her current body of work. The rocks have been collected from beaches across the east coast of Scotland. Abbie describes the beaches themselves as ‘one of very few places I feel truly at peace.’

Abbie communicates the peace she feels in these locations to her audience through the mindful process of painting and repainting these portraits. Utilising her semi-abstract style as a grounding process, she relocates and re-illustrates her subjects from the beach. This practice of repetitive painting connects the artist with her environment, something she finds crucial to her wellbeing.
