Bethan Roberts (b. 2002, London) is a Glasgow based artist recently graduated from the Glasgow School of Art with a BA (Hons) in Painting and Printmaking. Her practice explores the dynamics of relationships via absurd, energetic pastel drawings. The cross sections of bellies and heads is a recurring motif, as well as characters who are eating, birthing or feeding. Embryos and animals inhabit theatrical scenes, telling stories of growth, change, dependency and nurturing. Her pictures are the melodramatic ramblings of someone looking inwards while experiencing the weirdness of the world and its mesh of hierarchies and relationships. Drawing in pastels on sheets of paper allows her an unprecious way of working and acts as a provisional and dynamic medium.

This new body of work exhibited is influenced by John Rafman’s Voraphilia project which was shown at the 2016 Berlin Biennale.
