Iris May is a multimedia artist based in Glasgow. After graduating with a first from Glasgow School of Art, she has continued to build her collection of collapsible sculptures. These flat-pack works are designed to be easily transportable, move freely and assert their presence in public spaces in a way that is minimally destructive. Possible Body 3 is the latest in this series and was built with three primary configurations. The act of repurposing gives each new figure a unique history of movement, which aids their function as companions.

Having begun her practice during the COVID-19 pandemic, the main driving force behind May’s practice is a confrontation of loneliness; ‘making friends’. This exploration continues within her curatorial practice, as she founded and co-runs the project ‘Stuck?’ creating spaces for people to connect through partnering with local businesses in the city to give free exhibition opportunities to underrepresented artists, most recently hospitality workers. Notable exhibitions of her work include A Dark Pool of Water at the Colour Factory, Hackney and Title Pending at The Rumblehouse Gallery, Calgary.
