Aisha Plumridge's narrative oil paintings focus on human experience, in which she combines a sense of the mystical with the everyday.
Often translating drawings into paint, Aisha treats the canvas as her stage, where characters coalesce to build narratives. Employing figures as symbolic representations of societal archetypes, Aisha inquires into universal aspects of human nature, from the absurd and grotesque, to the tender and intimate. The people in Aisha's paintings are seen to be dreaming, playing and gossiping, acting mischievously as they respond to the material world they inhabit.
Looking closely, one notices behaviours and gestures that often pass unseen, the subtle oddities and peculiarities of people, inviting you to linger, to watch and to witness as stories quietly unfold.
Born in Wales, Aisha graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2025, where she received the James Cumming Award for Draughtsmanship. She currently lives and works in Edinburgh.
