Peering into the flue before firing it is like a drilled ice core measuring the depth of time. The snow wall holds the fire in a sustained way even as it yields to the heat. As dusk falls the now paper thin walls continue to hold their form and glow with the firelight. The melt lines create their own calligraphic language razor sharp and delicate, the volcano ‘s transformation being an initrinsic part of its destruction and dissolving. The form of the melted crater is held throughout the following day, the ground left unburnt.
