Moyna Flannigan RSA (Elect) was born in Kirkcaldy, Fife in 1963 and lives and works in Edinburgh.
She studied at Edinburgh College of Art and was awarded her Master of Fine Art degree from Yale University School of Art, New Haven in 1987. From 1995 to 2005 she lectured in Painting at the Glasgow School of Art. She has taught at Edinburgh College of Art since 2015.
She has held numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally. In 2021 two paintings were purchased with a Mondrian grant for the Collection of Museum Arnhem, the Netherlands. In 2023 she received the Bryan Robertson Award, and her work was selected by an international jury for inclusion in Vitamin C+: Collage in Contemporary Art, published by Phaidon.
In 2025 Moyna Flannigan was honoured to receive the Blackadder Houston Mid-Career Painting Award from the RSA.
