The Body in the Library: George Donald RSA and Early Anatomists

The RSA Library

Since the Renaissance the study of anatomy and the human figure has been the central element in an artist’s training. Although no longer a universal practice, George Donald RSA continues the tradition through his commitment to the teaching of figure painting through anatomy.

In 2003, with the assistance of the RSA Gillies Award, George Donald produced his artist book ‘Anatomia’.This is displayed alongside a variety of approaches to anatomical study and includes work by his heroes, Vesalius and Albinus.
