Elvey Stedman is a sculptor and printmaker. Born in 1998, she grew up in Edinburgh and is now based in Glasgow. She graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2021 and was awarded both the Alastair Smart Memorial Prize and a RSA John Kinross Scholarship to Florence.

Fragility and ephemerality are central elements to her practice. With the use of both natural and man made materials, she celebrates the shapes and forms that are reminiscent of birth, warmth, protection and weightlessness.

This sculpture is made to explore a kind of naivety and otherworldliness that can be associated with folkloric imagery. It borrows from and subverts domestic objects and the materialities of natural resources that humans have appropriated as symbols of their own.
