Keith Rand

Sketchbook, 1990
Keith Rand RSA, C. 1990

This is an immensely varied sketchbook that brings in all the aspects one finds across the Rand sketchbook collection. Part journal, part thinking piece and part ideas factory it contains writing, brief thoughts and sketches and the artist’s musings. It also features ideas for sculptural forms that reappear and are developed as the sketchbook is returned to.

This particular sketchbook contains many adaptations of the pod-like structures that Rand would develop into environmentally conscious pieces like Atmosphobia (1990). It also looks to have been used as a tool of translation on a trip to the Czech Republic and features some of Rand’s designs for furniture.
