Kirkland Main: Industrial Archaeology

Academicians' Gallery

Free entry

An exhibition exploring man’s engagement with landscape by Edinburgh-based Academician, Kirkland Main. Featuring boldly-coloured oil paintings and delicate watercolours of  Scottish landscape (with one exquisite nod to Spain) and man’s shaping of it through industry, cultivation and design. The completed works are accompanied by a series of sketchbook drawings which further enhance and explain Kirkland’s process from eye to hand to paper and their onward development to a larger scale.

Kirkland Main was a lecturer in Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art between 1969 and 1999. During this time, he served as Head of School and Vice Principal. Since his retirement, Kirkland has continued to paint from his studio in Cramond.
