Elected ARSA: 13 November 1839
John Sheriff A.R.S.A was born in Glasgow in 1816.
Was at first a clerk in a warehouse there, but coming to Edinburgh he devoted himself to art; and was rapidly acquiring both practice and reputation as an animal painter when he died in 1844.
He was a remarkably handsome man, and sat for Duncan for his "Prince Charles Entering Edinburgh."
