Elected ARSA: 14 November 1877

Mr. Docharty was a landscape painter of very considerable eminence, and although so recently elected into the Academy, he had been for many years highly appreciated, especially in the West of Scotland.

He was an earnest student of nature, and the number of faithfully studied works produced by him show the perfection to which he had attained. He was an exhibitor for many years in our Galleries, and also in the Royal Academy of London. But in Glasgow—the place of his birth and residence—the majority of his works were shown. He was always progressive, his last works being his best. He died in Glasgow when scarcely forty-nine years old.
